Better Crash Data

AMEP announce another revolution in road safety policy. Collecting crash data, the right way.

Most could incorrectly assume that many of the items identified in the pictures are already captured. The sad reality is that barely a quarter of it, actually gets captured and in many cases that data we do capture, gets distorted or lost in statistics on the back end.

While Fatality crashes attract the highest level of data reporting, the Casualty or Injury crashes are poorly accounted for. This is a devastating truth, when you consider that the overwhelming majority of the $27 billion our country spends each year on road trauma, goes toward life altering injuries.

Tow away and near misses - Forget it.... In NSW for instance, the police don't even need to attend. Call a hotline and off you go. The insurance company handles it, so no data is recorded for crash statistic purposes.

We need to understand all factors that affect road trauma. Not just Alcohol, Speed and Fatigue. It's easy to believe 1/3 of your problem is speed, if you only count 3 factors....

We all know distraction is huge influence today, but where is the raw data collecting it? We have nothing more than infringements and a few uni studies to tell that tale.

It's very simple. GARBAGE IN = GARBAGE OUT

We at the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party are proud to have developed a data collection framework that is long overdue. A system capable of evolving our current National Road Safety Strategy and The Safe System into the complex model fit for the future.

We call on the government to show leadership to make this a reality. Legislating a partnership between health, insurance, enforcement and repair industries to capture the whole truth. Not the distorted reality our current crash data gives. Resources will be required for the BITRE to manage it too.

This is a policy is development, if you would like to contribute to discussion contact us.
